The current Boiler testing regulations are as follows:
Hydraulic Pressure Test :
2x Working Pressure (Inital Test)
1.5 x Working Pressure (tests thereafter, execpt after repairs)
Valid for 4 Years, [unless deemed by individual boiler testers for an earlier retest.]
Water capacity to be measured to enable BAR/Litres figure to be calculated [insurance]
Steam Test:
A cold examination is carried out by the Boiler Tester, [with an independant witness]. Security of threads, Gauge glasses etc. Ensure correct ammount of water feeds to Boiler are present, [Minimum of 2].
Whilst in Steam the Locomotive is checked for major steam leaks, and that the safety valves lift at the correct operating pressure, and that the previously calibrated pressure guages do not go past 10% over the red line. {working pressure}
The steam test is carried out annually and both certificates must be in place for a vaild 'Boiler Certificate' to be in place.
