Society Locomotives
The Merthyr Tydfil and District Model Engineering Society currently owns and operates two locomotives. The first being a Class 52 Western Locomotive, 'Western Champion'. The Locomotive was purchased in kitform from Phoniex Locomtovies, with funding from a successful Heritage Lottery Application to 'Awards for All'.
We recently were successful with a second application to 'awards for all' and with this grant the Society purchased a second locomotive, A 'Polly 5' Steam Locomotive. This 2-6-0 Tank Locomotive is also a kit, assembled by the young members of the Society on evenings and weekends, (with the occasional assistance from more senior members) Below are a number of photographs of the both Locomotives.

After the Society purchasing the sound unit for the Western Champion, in the October Midland Model Engineering Exhibition, the unit was fitted by the members, and is now fully operational. The sound unit together with the various sound files add's an extra dimension of realism to the Locomotive, and this loco will continue to encourage new members into the Society.
